Rick Perry’s Immigration Albatross

While millions of Americans struggle to find work in this economy, 8 million illegal aliens have no problem at all. Virtually all jobs created in Texas over the last several years have gone almost exclusively to immigrants-both legal and illegal. Rick Perry is subsidizing college education for illegal aliens so they can take even more American jobs later on. He opposes a border fence, and would not consider an Arizona type immigration law for Texas. When asked by the heartless people of Iowa to explain himself, Rick Perry did the best he could. That’s problem for Perry: He did the best he could.

Just a few weeks after his debacle of debate in Florida where he called those that opposed pandering to illegal aliens “heartless,” Rick Perry faced voters in Iowa Saturday, and had to explain his position. His answers left the people confounded and disappointed. Protraying himself as an expert on illegal immigration, and a man of action that has done more towards border security than the feds, Perry attempted to do damage control in Iowa, where there, as in the rest of the country, his poll numbers have plummeted.

Stop after stop, voters questioned Perry on his in-state tuition position in Texas. Perry’s answers did him more harm than good. He basically told the voters that he was subsidizing the education of illegal aliens so they would be able to displace even more American workers.

“Are we going to create a class of tax wasters or are we going to create taxpayers? Texas chose the latter,” Perry said. “Every state has the freedom to make that decision. It’s not a federal issue. I would not want it to be a federal issue. What I want to do is to be the president of the United States who secures the border so future governors don’t have to mess with that particular issue.”

He opens the border in one sentence, and claims to seal it the next. That’s what confused the people he attempted to hoodwink in Iowa. He claims the illegals he’s handing a college education to must be on a path to citizenship. Well, states can’t do that, although California has effectively granted amnesty to illegal aliens. So far no word on whether the Justice Department will pursue that flouting of the law. Texas and California can grant defacto amnesty to known lawbreakers with no consequences, yet states like Alabama are challenged in court actually trying to apply the rule of law. Our Justice Department.

Rick Perry has long been crossed off my list of potential candidates, but for those that may still be considering him, just keep in mind the numbers bear out that he hasn’t helped Americans at all. On the contrary, he’s gone out of his way to make sure illegal aliens are educated and employed in Texas. Now he wants to be your president. We already had George Bush, and I don’t think this country wants to see that again. With comprehensive immigration reform, and the DREAM Act sure to come up once again, we don’t need a supporter of those types of bills in the White House. We already have someone there now that would sign any number of versions of those bills in a heartbeat. We know what Rick Perry would do. He’s already done it in Texas.

Rick Perry needs to go back to Texas and deal with his unique problem. The voters in Iowa aren’t satisfied with his answers, and if the polls are any indicator, the rest of the country aren’t either.
